Yeah, it’s a little creepy thinking about how to reach out to website visitors with a blog. Even though blogging has been around for a while, many people just don’t do it – they feel very uneasy about what to say, and worry about saying too much.
Seriously, do people have to know everything about you and your company’s operations to finally decide to hire you? What happened to the good ol’ days when people just asked a friend who they would call for services, and they’d call?
This time of year, you don’t have time to get spooked out about blogging. Folks, the good ol’ days have simply gone online! People still ask each other who they should call, only now they tend to do it on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, MerchantCircle, or Yelp.
If they don’t know you talk about your products and services online, they won’t even think about sharing the good news. But if you share your blog content through social media – and they think it will help their friends – they’ll share it in a heartbeat.
Don’t look at blogging so critically! Think about it like a conversation. You’re not talking to monsters under the bed, you’re talking to real, live, warm people who are already looking for your services. Why not give them a reason to talk about you?
Here are a few ideas you can blog about this time of year so they can easily share your perspective with their friends! (Write these down!)
How to use your products to save money for the holidays
How to recognize a dangerous situation that your company solves
How to use your services and products as unusual gifts to unlikely people
What organizations your company supports – school programs, city leagues, cancer research, homeless shelters, ex-offender reentry programs, etc. – and how they can join you.
Funny photos of your products being used incorrectly, or misunderstood
Keep it light, keep it fun, but most of all – just do it! The familiar company gets the business, so don’t be afraid to let your personality show. And don’t be afraid to learn how to communicate on social media. Yeah, there might be creepy weirdos lurking in the shadows, but they go away when you quit focusing on them, right?
